Wrecks and obstructions listed by the Shom (France)

The product "Wrecks and obstructions" contains a description of wrecks, obstructions or underwater rocks in the French exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The objects of the product "Wrecks and obstructions" are divided into 3 classes: - Wrecks: all or part of a ship or aircraft that has run aground or sunk; - Obstructions (OBSTRN): objects of an artificial nature other than wrecks (e.g. containers, lost anchors); - Underwater rocks (UWTROC): an isolated mass that covers and uncovers, flush with the water datum or still submerged, of a rocky or coral nature, which constitutes an anomaly in its environment. Not all underwater rocks known to the Shom are included in the product. This product does not concern floating or drifting objects (containers, debris, drifting buoys, etc.) whose position is rapidly changing.

Additional information The information used in the preparation of this product comes from a variety of sources. Shom internal collection: This mainly consists of surveys carried out by the Shom's Hydro-Oceanographic Groups. However, the following information can also be integrated - elements already appearing on a marine chart in service which have not been surveyed; - information generated by the exploitation of space, aerial or lidar images. External collection : - French Navy: some French Navy vessels equipped with underwater investigation equipment carry out interventions using divers and transmit the results of their explorations to Shom; - Public bodies: in particular, the Directions Départementale des Territoires et de la Mer (DDTM); - Port organisations; - Divers' associations such as the Groupe de Recherche et d'Identification des Épaves en Manche-Est (GRIEME); - DRASSM: Department of Underwater Archaeological Research; - Individuals renowned in the world of scuba diving.
